WILLIMANTIC — Bowen Baker struck out 18 and allowed just one hit as Wheeler High shut out Windham, 5-0, in an ECC Division IV baseball game Tuesday.

In addition to the pickoff, he threw out a runner at first on a bunt attempt. Baker accounted for 20 of the 21 outs in the game.
"He threw 85 pitches and 65 of them were strikes," Wheeler coach Eric Collins said. "He would get up 0-2 [in the count] and then drop in the deuce [curveball]."
Baker is 4-0 with 81 strikeouts in 36 innings. He has an ERA of 0.39, allowing just two earned runs this season.
Baker was also 3 for 4 at the plate with a double and two runs scored. Connor Melinosky added a two-run single in the fifth inning, and Aidan Cameron was 3 for 3 with a double, RBI and two runs scored.
