NORWICH — Bowen Baker struck out 17 as Wheeler High's baseball team defeated Windham, 3-2, in an ECC Division IV game Saturday at Dodd Stadium.
Baker (2-0) has 33 strikeouts in two games with an ERA of 1.0. He has just five walks in two complete games.
"He overpowered them with his fastball," Wheeler coach Eric Collins said. "We put the ball in play a little more than Putnam did. In the last inning, he snapped off a couple of curveballs."
Baker, who allowed four hits, had three strikeouts in the first, third, sixth and seventh innings.
Wheeler pushed across the winning run in the bottom of the fifth. Aidan Cameron (2 for 3) singled and stole second. He scored on a RBI single to right field by Matt Pierce with two outs to make it 3-2.
Lukas Jones also drove in a run.
Windham fell to 0-4, 0-1.
Wheeler (2-1, 2-0) next travels to Lyman Memorial on Monday for a 4 p.m. game.
