GROTON — Bowen Baker hit an inside-the-park home run as Wheeler High closed the season with a 4-3 nonleague baseball victory over Putnam on Thursday at Washington Park.

The hit was down the right-field line and brought home two runs. Baker finished 3 for 4 with a double and three RBIs. He had three homers in the Lions' final two games.

Reliever Tyler Burdick entered the game in the seventh with runners at first and third and two outs. A stolen base put a runner at second, but Burdick struck out Putnam's No. 4 hitter to end the game.

Starter Lukas Jones earned the win. He struck out nine.

Krishtion Pasante was 3 for 3 for the Lions (7-13, 5-3 Division IV), who finished with three straight wins.

Putnam finished 1-18, 0-8.
