NORTH KINGSTOWN — Seven Chariho High wrestlers finished first in their weight classes as the Chargers topped the field in the South County wrestling tournament Saturday.
Cam Anderson (182), Nate Marchione (195) and Devin Shaw (220) all finished unbeaten in their weight classes with 4-0 records. All of the wins can via pins.
Shaw won three of his bouts in less than a minute before getting a pin late in the second period in the title bout. Marchione won his title bout with a second-period pin. Anderson pinned his opponent in the title bout with two seconds remaining in the match.
Ben Dougherty, the defending state champion at 160 pounds, went 4-0 at 170. He won the title bout with a tech fall, 16-1. He also had two pins in the first minute.
Kyle Merritt finished 4-0 at 138 pounds winning three of his bouts with pins. He prevailed in the title bout with a major decision, 12-1.
Dominic Bonnano won the 152-pound title with a 3-0 record. Bonnano had a pair of pins and prevailed in the title bout, 5-1.
James Dougherty was 4-0 at 160 pounds with three pins. Dougherty won 2-0 in the title bout.
Mike Phelps finished second at 285 pounds winning two of his bouts with pins. Phelps lost in the title bout, 2-0.
Jackson Bridge took third place at 145 pounds with a 5-1 record including four pins. He won the third-place bout, 8-2.
Wade Husing finished fourth at 106 pounds with a 2-2 record.
Chariho finished first with 249 points. North Kingstown was second with 207.5 and Cranston West Third with 141.5.
Chariho is off until Dec. 15 when it travels to North Attleboro at 9 a.m. Norton, Mass. and Hope will also be wrestling.
Bulldogs finish 13th
Westerly finished 13th with 20 points.
Brian Garcia (126) and Judea Balmonte (220) each finished 2-2.
Westerly next competes at the Lancer Invitational at Waterford on Dec. 15 at 10 a.m.
