PROVIDENCE — Nine Chariho High wrestlers advanced to the semifinals of the state wrestling tournament on Friday night at the Providence Career & Technical Academy.

Wade Housing (106), Kyle Merritt (138), Dominic Bonanno (152), James Dougherty (160), Ben Dougherty (170), Cam Anderson (182), Nate Marchione (195), Devin Shaw (220) and Mike Phelps (285)  all advanced.

All nine wrestlers were 2-0 on the opening day of the event. Merritt, James Dougherty, Ben Dougherty and Marchione won each of their bouts with pins.

Bishop Hendricken leads the team standings after the first day with 100 points. Cumberland is second with 94.5 and Chariho is third with 91.

Wrestling resumes Saturday at 10 a.m. and the finals will take place later that night.
