VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — Chariho High's Ben Dougherty and Kyle Merritt each posted 3-2 records at the National High School Coaches Association wrestling tournament on Saturday.

Wrestlers are divided by grade and weight class.

Dougherty won three matches by decisions, 6-3, 6-3 and 9-0. He lost 10-4 and 5-2. Dougherty, the state champion and New England runner-up at 170 pounds, wrestled at 160 in the tournament.

Merritt won three times by decisions, 7-2, 6-2 and 4-3. He lost 8-7 and 6-4. Merritt wrestled at 138 pounds. He was the Rhode Island runner-up.

Devin Shaw was 1-2 at 220 pounds. Shaw won 8-2 and lost two bouts by pin.

Dougherty and Shaw are both seniors; Merritt is a junior.

Coventry's Joziah Fry advanced to the title bout at 106 pounds. Fry is a junior.
