WOOD RIVER JCT. — Chariho High's wrestling team picked up three more dual-meet wins Saturday, including one against Westerly High for the Challenge Cup.
Chariho defeated Westerly, 30-12. Seven bouts were uncontested and considered no matches.
Chariho has won the Challenge Cup, which is presented to the winning team, seven straight times and leads the series with Westerly, 19-7.
Westerly's last win was in 2012. The series started in 1993.
Chariho's Kyle Merritt won his bout at 145 pounds, pinning Westerly's Adam Gomez in 51 seconds.
Luke Mead pinned Xavier Webster in 50 seconds at 170 pounds. Chariho's Wade Husing (106 pounds), Christian Fortune (113) and Mitchell Daniels (120) won by forfeit.
Westerly's Brian Garcia pinned Riley Thayer in 2:58 at 126. Alex Brophy received a forfeit at 132.
Chariho also defeated Lincoln, 60-24, and Exeter-West Greenwich, 54-24, in a nonleague match.
Chariho received seven forfeits against Lincoln. Husing (106, :42), Cam Anderson (182, :51) and Devin Shaw (220, :58) won by pins.
Against EWG, Merritt (138, :58), Dominic Bonanno (152, 3:12), James Dougherty (160, :29), Mead (170, 1:37), Anderson (182, 3:10), Nate Marchione (195, 1:55) and Shaw (220, :45) won with pins.
Chariho also received two forfeits.
Chariho (22-3, 11-2 Division I-A) next travels to Coventry on Thursday at 5 p.m. Cranston West and Toll Gate will also compete.
