NORTON, Mass. — Six Chariho High wrestlers finished unbeaten as the Chargers picked up three dual-meet victories on Saturday.
Chariho earned a close Division I win against Hope, 33-30, and also beat two Massachusetts schools, Norton, 46-33, and North Attleboro, 39-23.
Freshman Wade Husing finished 3-0 at 106 pounds, including a big win in the match with Hope. Husing beat Maurice Cooper, 5-2. Husing fell behind 2-0 in the match, but came back to take a 3-2 lead. Late in the match he earned a reversal to take a 5-2 lead.
"He's showing a lot of maturity as a freshman," Chariho coach Scott Merritt said. "The reversal late in the match was big."
Chariho's Levi Barrington lost to defending state champion Edison Guarcas, 4-0. If Barrington had been pinned, the match would have ended in a tie.
"For someone in his first year in the varsity lineup that was a good showing," Merritt said.
Kyle Merritt (138), Dominic Bonnano (152), Ben Dougherty (182, 170), Cam Anderson (170, 182) and Devin Shaw (220) all finished 3-0.
Merritt had the quickest pin of the day, in 24 seconds against North Attleboro.
James Dougherty (160) and Nate Marchione (195) both finished 2-1. Zach Jesuino (132) was 1-2.
Chariho next hosts Cumberland on Wednesday at Chariho Middle at 7 p.m. The Clippers are traditionally one of the better teams in the state. Cumberland finished third at the state meet last season; the Chargers were fifth.
