PROVIDENCE — Kate Powers struck out 13 and Chariho High pounded out 13 hits to beat Moses Brown, 6-3, in a Division I softball game Thursday.

Chariho (5-1, 5-1 Division I) has won five straight.

Powers has 24 strikeouts in her last two games. For the season, she has 48 strikeouts in 32 innings and an ERA of 1.75.

"Obviously, another strong outing for her," Chariho coach Dave Petrocelli said. "We had just one hit after three innings, so we had 12 hits in the last four innings.

"It was the best performance — hitting, pitching and defense — we've had this season."

Chariho scored two runs in the fourth and four in the fifth to take a 6-1 lead.

Shelby Roode and Annaliese Kenney both finished 3 for 4. Roode drove in two runs, and Kenney had one RBI.

Haylie Wellman, Caitlin O'Leary and Powers were each 2 for 4. Wellman also drove in a run.

Moses Brown dropped to 4-3, 4-2.

Chariho next hosts Mount St. Charles on Monday at 4:30 p.m.
