NORTH SMITHFIELD — Kate Powers pitched a three-hitter and struck out 15 as Chariho High defeated North Smithfield, 10-1, in a Division I softball game Saturday.

Powers walked three and the one run was earned. Powers has 129 strikeouts in 88 innings with a 1.03 ERA.

Chariho (15-2, 15-2 Division I) trailed 1-0 after four innings, but scored three runs in the fifth and five more in the sixth to take control.

Caitlin O'Leary, Haylie Wellman and Powers each finished with two hits and two RBIs. O'Leary and Powers both doubled.

Ava Rao was 2 for 3. Chloe Joslin and Shelby Roode each drove in a run.

North Smithfield is 8-8, 8-7.

Chariho next hosts La Salle Academy on Monday at 4:15 p.m. La Salle, which beat Chariho in the first game of the season, is 14-1.

Pilgrim is also 14-1 and appears to have the inside track for the top seed in the state tournament. The Patriots, which lost to Chariho, beat La Salle earlier in the season. They have league games left against Smithfield, Cranston West and Prout.
