BARRINGTON — Caitlin O'Leary continued her hot start to the season, collecting four hits as Chariho High defeated winless Barrington, 9-6, in a Division I softball game Thursday.
O'Leary hit a two-run double came in the fourth inning when the Chargers scored four runs to take a 7-3 lead. O'Leary finished 4 for 5 and is hitting .765 (13 for 17) through four games.
Haylie Wellman got her first start of the season and earned the win, striking out eight. She allowed three earned runs.
"Haylie hadn't been on the mound in five years and we wanted to see what we had behind Kate Powers. She pitched a fine game," Chariho coach Dave Petrocelli said.
Wellman also had two hits and two RBIs.
Shelby Roode added a pinch-hit double in the fourth inning, and Chlose Joslin was 2 for 4 as the Chargers finished with 13 hits.
Barrington (0-4, 0-4 Division I) scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh and had two runners on base when the game ended.
Chariho (3-1, 3-1) next hosts Cumberland on Tuesday at 4:15 p.m.
