Head coach: Brittney Godbout (4th season). Assistant coaches: Ashley Smith, Jessica Hannigan (volunteer), Scotty McGuire (volunteer).

Last year: Chariho finished 6-9 overall, 6-7 in Division II. The Chargers lost in the D-II quarterfinals.

Returning to varsity:

Seniors: Maura Beaudreau (MF, captain), Mollie Dyer (MF), Gabi Huzyk (D, captain), Lindsay Shields (D), Raechel Soito (A). Juniors: Sommer Choiniere (MF), Gina Foley (A), Layne Hart (MF), Jillian Pepler (A). Sophomores: Emma Hughes (MF), Emily St. Lawrence (A).

New to varsity:

Juniors: Megan Bradley (G), Montanna Carrier (D), Bella Couri (MF), Elle Lyons (D). Sophomores: Olivia Brown (D), Daria DiBiasio (D-MF).

Outlook: Chariho has some experience returning as the Chargers look for a better season in D-II.

Dyer is the top returning scorer with 28 goals.

“She is one of the better players on the team and we will be looking for her to lead the attack and transition,” Godbout said.

Bradley played for Chariho has a freshman before transferring to Prout. Now, she’s back in goal. Huzyk will be in charge of coordinating the defense in front of Bradley.

Hughes, Dyer and Beaudreau will anchor the midfield. Beaudreau had 12 goals and 12 assists last season.

Soito had 16 goals and nine assists last season and will play in an attack position.

Beaudreau and Hughes will be handling the draws. A rule change allows players to self start after a whistle, which should improve the pace of the game.

“We have a lot of great athletic kids, it’s just a matter of working together,” Godbout said. “We scrimmaged with Stonington and Montville. Our defense did well against both teams and our attack was not rushed.”

Coach’s take: “We’ve made the playoffs every year we’ve been in D-II. With the realignment, some of the scary teams that dominated us are gone. The girls are setting high expectations. We want to make the playoffs and get past the first round and maybe make the title game.”
