WOOD RIVER JCT. — Kate Powers and Madi Berlman each had 14 kills and the Chariho High girls volleyball team defeated Mt. Hope, 3-1, on Wednesday in the preliminary round of the Division II tournament.

The game scores were 25-12, 23-25, 25-20 and 25-15.

Jasmine Babbitt added 13 kills and seven blocks for the Chargers (13-6).

"We hit the crap out of the ball. They were actually hitting the ceiling," Chariho coach Cathy Fulford said. "I hope the ceiling tiles stay up. We really had some good hits, and real tough serving, too."

Powers also had four aces and nine digs, and Berlman had 15 digs.

Chariho next visits West Warwick for a quarterfinal-round match with the unbeaten Wizards (18-0) on Friday at 6:30 p.m.
