WOOD RIVER JCT. — Emily St. Lawrence scored five goals, but Chariho High opened the Division II girls lacrosse season with a loss to Middletown, 14-7, on Wednesday.

Chariho trailed 11-5 at the half.

"Middletown was definitely more aggressive than us," Chariho coach Brittney Godbout said. "They won the majority of the 50-50 plays and we had a lot of giveaways today."

Mollie Dyer and Emma Hughes also scored for the Chargers. Gina Foley, Sommer Choiniere and Olivia Brown contributed an assist each.

Middletown (2-1, 2-1) won 18 of 28 ground balls. Chariho next hosts Portsmouth Saturday at 2 p.m.
