CUMBERLAND — Lucie Willett gave Chariho High a spark heading into the second half and Chariho High defeated Cumberland, 66-52, in a Division II girls basketball game Monday night.
Willett, a junior guard, hit two 3-pointers late in the first half to give the Chargers a 10-point lead at the break, 29-19. She would finish with a career-high 16 points.
Kate Powers scored 15 points, despite the Cumberland defense packing the inside to stop her, Spencer Shiels had 17 points, six rebounds and six assists, and Shelby Roode scored 13, including three 3-pointers.
Coach Chris Piasczy also praised the play of Britney LaBelle, who "played tremendous defense. She had all the intangibles. She played great team defense, she was tipping balls and she helped us get out in transition."
Powers added 12 rebounds, and Willett finished with three 3-pointers.
Madison Zancan scored a game-high 29 for the Clippers (4-5, 3-3 Division II).
Chariho next plays at Juanita Sanchez on Friday at 6 p.m.
