WOOD RIVER JCT. — Spencer Shiels scored a career-high 26 points and the Chariho High girls basketball team won its third straight game, 60-45 over North Providence in a Division II game Monday.
Shiels, a sophomore guard, also had three rebounds, five assists and four steals for the Chargers (6-7, 6-4 Division II).
"She's been playing well and playing hard, but she really played at a high level tonight," Chariho coach Tom Gilligan said. "I think she shot 10 for 13 from the field. She had a lot of layups and lot of steals."
Kate Powers added 11 points, six rebounds and five steals in the win. Fifteen Chargers played in the game against the winless Cougars (0-10, 0-10).
"I was pleased with our defense," Gilligan added. "In the first half our goal was to keep them under 20 and we did."
Chariho led 31-19 at the half.
The Chargers next play at Ponaganset on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
