WOOD RIVER JCT. — The Chariho High girls basketball team is finally getting healthy, and the results are beginning to show.
Kate Powers scored 19 points and grabbed 15 rebounds and Spencer Shiels had 18 points, five rebounds and seven steals to lead the Chargers over Cumberland, 56-47, in a Division II game Tuesday night.
It marked the first time Powers and Shiels have played together this season for the Chargers, who have won back-to-back games for the first time this season.
"We're just finding our way," coach Tom Gilligan said. "The girls kept it together and took care of business. It was a good team win."
Gilligan said the Clippers (2-6, 1-3 Division II) cut Chariho's lead to one in the second half before the Chargers "regrouped and finished the game strong."
Shelby Roode added seven points for Chariho (2-5, 2-2), which next plays at Exeter-West Greenwich on Thursday at 7 p.m.
