WOOD RIVER JCT. — Chariho High’s Thanksgiving Day football game with East Greenwich has been moved to Friday.
The game will kick off at 10 a.m.
The weather forecast for Thursday caused the game to be moved. Temperatures are expected to be in the low 20s with a wind-chill factor in the teens.
It is the second time the date of the game has been changed. It was originally scheduled to be played Wednesday night at 6:30, but was moved to Thursday morning after East Greenwich played in the D-II Super Bowl on Sunday.
The Avengers (9-2) lost to the Villa Novans, 37-13, in the title game. Chariho brings a 3-5-1 record into the game.
This is the first time the two teams have played Thanksgiving week.
Chariho played Narragansett the previous four seasons. But Chariho moved to Division III this season, meaning the two teams would play during the regular season, too. It is conceivable they could have played three times during the season if they had continued to play on Thanksgiving.
A number of others games in both Connecticut and Rhode Island have also been moved to other days as a result of the weather forecast.
