Tommy Wrzesien finished with a 2-1 record at the Roger Williams Invitational wrestling tournament on Saturday.

Wrzesien, a sophomore who wrestles for Johnson and Wales University, lost in the finals at 197 pounds to Castleton's Mitch LaFlam, 4-3. Johnson & Wales won the tournament.

Ben Dougherty finished 4-2 for Rochester Institute of Technology at 165 pounds in the same tournament.

Wrzesien and Dougherty are both former Chariho High wrestlers.

Cross country

Walker helps ECSU to strong finish

BRUNSWICK, Maine — Westerly's John Walker helped the Eastern Connecticut State University men's cross country team to its best finish at the New England Division III championships Saturday at Bowdoin College.

Eastern finished 17th among the 54 teams as Walker completed the 4.9-mile course in a time of 26:39.

Walker is a sophomore.
