PROVIDENCE — Chariho High's Joe Golas won the 1,000-meter run at the freshman state meet on Tuesday at the Providence Career & Technical Academy.

Golas was first in a time of 2:49.55. Barrington's Holden Vaughn was second (2:52.48).

Chariho finished 12th among 21 teams with 10 points. Bishop Hendricken was first with 67, and North Kingstown was second (63).

Chariho next competes in the Elite Performance meet on Saturday at noon at PCTA.
