SEEKONK, Mass. — Chariho High could not overcome a slow start and lost to Wheeler School, 51-47, in a Division II boys basketball game Friday night.
Chariho trailed 31-17 at the half, but outscored Wheeler 30-20 in the second half.
"We were down 31-12 and closed the first half with a 5-0 run. They played matchup zone and we had a tough time," Chariho coach Corey Downey said. "We only had one offensive rebound in the first half.
"In the second half, we were able to fight back and give ourselves a chance to win. I was proud that we were able to show our fight in the second half."
Ben Harrison led the Chargers with 13 points and played well defensively against Wheeler's D.J. Smith, who also scored 13.
Luke Fusaro finished with seven for the Chargers (6-8, 5-5 Division II).
Wheeler improved to 9-4, 7-2.
Chariho is off until Friday when it hosts Pilgrim at 7 p.m.
