EAST GREENWICH — Chariho High turned in its best performance of the season downing East Greenwich, 59-49, in a Division II boys basketball game Wednesday night.
"It's a great, great road win for us," Chariho coach Corey Downey said. "Our defense was so good tonight. [Lucas] Santos did a phenomenal job on [EG's John] McMullen. He made very shot difficult. He also had seven rebounds and five assists. It was probably the best game he has played here in his career."
McMullen finished with 13, but Downey said Santos' effort was big for Chariho. Chariho played man-to-man defense the entire game.
"We were physical and we communicated well on defense. And we limited our turnovers. We have been building toward this. We just started scrapping more," Downey said.
Luke Fusaro made six 3-pointers and led the Chargers in scoring with 18 points.
Levi King contributed 15 points and eight rebounds. Dylan LaBelle contributed 11 points. Chariho made 11 of its 13 attempts [84.6 percent] from the free-throw line.
East Greenwich is now 4-4, 3-2 Division II. Chariho is 4-6, 3-3 Division II. The Chargers next host West Warwick on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
