BARRINGTON — Chariho High's Luke Fusaro and John Pellegrino hit huge 3-pointers in the final two minutes as the Chargers topped Barrington, 69-60, in a Division II boys basketball game Tuesday night.
Chariho had an 11-point lead in the second half, but Barrington (14-8, 12-6 Division II) came back to tie the game at 59.
Fusaro hit a 3-pointer with about two minutes remaining to give the Chargers a 3-point lead. Pellegrino hit another 3-pointer to put the Chargers up six. After that, Chariho made its free throws down the stretch to prevail.
Chariho will finish as the fourth or fifth seed in the D-II seedings. If Shea beats Cranston West on Thursday the Chargers will be No. 5. If Shea loses, the Chargers will be No. 4. The Chargers would host a playoff game on Friday or Saturday.
"We were mentally able to compose ourselves and execute down the stretch," Chariho coach Corey Downey said. "We shared the ball really well, like we have been doing."
Levi King led the Chargers in scoring with 19 points. Lucas Santos finished with 16, including four 3-pointers.
"He hit four 3s while defending their best player," Downey said.
Fusaro defended Will Rywold, who finished with 26 points.
"Lucas did a great job on him, despite the fact he had 26. We did a really job defensively in the first half," Downey said.
Fusaro finished with 12 points, and Pellegrino had 10. Ben Harrison led the team in rebounds with 17.
