PAWTUCKET — Chariho High got off to a slow start and couldn't contain Shea's Erickson Bans in a 73-63 Division II boys basketball loss Friday night.
Bans finished with 37 points on 10 two-point field goals, two 3s and an 11-for-11 effort from the free-throw line for the Raiders (3-2, 2-2 Division II).
"He's really a special player," Chariho coach Corey Downey said. "He gets to the basket, can hit the 3 and he got to the free-throw line tonight. We had him take some tough shots, but give him credit."
Chariho made 18 turnovers in the first half and trailed 33-20 at intermission.
Downey said the Chargers (2-6, 1-3) got as close as six points with two minutes to go in the game, but an open 3-pointer that would have given them the lead rimmed out.
Dylan LaBelle finished with 19 points for Chariho. Levi King added 13 points and 15 rebounds, Luke Fusaro scored 11, and Ben Harrison had six points and eight rebounds.
"I'm proud our guys battled back," Downey said, noting his team played its best basketball of the season in the second half. "We've just got to improve our starts."
Chariho next hosts Prout on Monday at 7 p.m.
