The Class of 1971 at Chariho High School has produced four town council members: Brian McCuin, the late Lloyd Cook Jr., Barbara Watrous, and myself.

Councilor McCuin and I are currently in office, he in Westerly and myself in Hopkinton. Councilor McCuin is the only one of the four of us that was elected as a Democrat, and to the Westerly Town Council.

Decades ago Brian and I were neighbors on High Street, Ashaway. His late mother Elizabeth, served on the Hopkinton Town Council many years ago.

Councilor McCuin and I, have both won and lost elections. But we are both “political survivors”. I wish him the best of health, as he returns from being “sidelined” with his health issues.

The writer is vice president of the Hopkinton Town Council.
