I applaud the letter-to-the-editor by Fred Sculco that was published in the August 15 edition calling into question the practice of clearing forests to install solar electric generating facilities.
Forests provide multiple benefits to the people of our communities, including sequestering carbon to slow the heating of the climate that supports us. There are perverse incentives to engage in this practice, and they should be removed.
Rhode Island, the Ocean State, enjoys an enormous clean and free energy resource in the form of wind just off our shores. Our electricity should be generated there, rather by clearing any more forests.
