We encourage our Westerly Town Council to move the proposed schools project forward for a vote by the public as presented by the Westerly School Committee.

The state-approved plan to reimburse our town over 52% to build a new elementary school , upgrade two elementary schools and make improvements to our high school must not be rejected. The children of Westerly need and deserve the best facilities we can provide. This is an opportune time to be able to provide excellent school facilities that will last well into the future. Westerly needs to demonstrate to our present residents, and those looking to be part of Westerly in the future, that our school facilities are crucial to the success and future of Westerly.

The small increase in taxes that will result in approving this project is probably less than what most Westerly taxpayers spend per year on filling their coffee travel mugs every morning. This will be a small price to pay for an enormous benefit to Westerly.

Again, we urge that this project be presented to the Westerly voters for approval as it is currently proposed.
