The American Flag Committee wishes to set up around 300 flags throughout the town of Westerly on Saturday, May 25, at 7 a.m.
We will meet in back of the Adult Day Care Center on Union Street with the help of a few committee members, Boy Scouts Troop #16, and as many volunteers we can get to get the job done. It takes about an hour to set up all the flags.
Volunteers are greatly needed to help us accomplish this community service. Without the help, we would be limited as to the amount of flags that will be flying, so please come down and help.
Even if you set up just one flag I am sure you will feel the pride that we do in setting up “Old Glory.”
We set them up for all the ones we love, and for all Americans who work hard every day raising their families, love their country and take pride in seeing Old Glory waving freely.
We raise them for all the veterans who serve, have served, and especially for the ones who sacrificed their lives.
We wish to thank all that will help out setting up and taking down the flags, and for the donations that folks and businesses have given to help this program of “Old Glory Flying High” stay alive in Westerly and Pawcatuck.
Pawcatuck will also fly the flags for the Memorial Day Parade on Saturday the 25th. Hopefully many will attend in honor of our fallen comrades. The parade kicks off at 9:30 a.m. at the shopping center in Pawcatuck.
Lastly, the flags will be taken down on Monday the 27th at 4:30 p.m. We will meet at this time, same place in back of the Adult Day Center, to store the flags away until the next big holiday, which is the Fourth of July, our 243rd birthday.
Again, thank you so much for all your support!
