At December’s Town Council meeting, Councilor Carney objected to my reappointment to the Parks and Recreation Commission on the basis that I had attended “probably less than half of the meetings a year”. Let me provide the truth: In 2017 I attended 7 of 10 meetings; in 2018 I attended 4 of 8 meetings (Carney said less than half); in 2019 I attended 6 of 8 meetings (Carney said less than half), or 65% of the meetings. When out of town, I have flown back for attendance at Parks and Recreation meetings. Councilor Carney also said meetings were canceled for a lack of quorum. Not true. Department decision to cancel a majority of the meetings is in deference to commissioners when there is a light agenda and items may be properly carried over to the next meeting.

Councilor Carney has every right to support any and all appointments she deems important. She should take care to be truthful in all her statements and not denigrate committed volunteers. For the record, I have been a consistent volunteer on various commissions for 26 years.
