standing letters

I’m writing a Letter to the Editor in hopes you can share mine and my children’s sincere appreciation for and thanks to all the wonderful people who helped make the May 8th fundraiser in memory of Angelo Turano at the Westerly Yacht Club such an overwhelming success!

To my family members, friends and colleagues who served on the organizing committee: Dr. Dante Gulino, Maria Allen, Rose Serluca, Anna Powelzyk, Joe DiGiacomo, Anja Kolb, Silvia Souder, Robin Turano, and Norma Stracener, where do I even begin to say how much gratitude I have for all of your time, effort and personal caring to make the event happen? Over a short period of only three months, everyone pulled together to sell tickets and secure numerous food and gift donations for dinner and raffles. You held multiple committee meetings, you beautifully packaged raffle items, and the evening of the event you came and decorated the tables, and sold more tickets at the door as well as raffle tickets. The event was sold out and the second session was standing room only as a result of your hard work and dedication! Can I just say that I felt really lifted up by your love and the love of the entire community that came out in support that night!

The generous food donations from local restaurants and neighbors made the evening’s event more like a top-tier “Taste of Westerly”! So many people commented on how delicious the food was and it was clear by the end of the evening everyone enjoyed the food as there was virtually nothing left! I want to be sure and thank the Westerly Yacht club’s Commodore Richard Pellegrino and board for donating the club’s function room. In addition, I want to give special thanks to Dave Miguel, Karen Turano and all the supporting staff and volunteers who served the food and drinks.

To the local businesses and shop owners who donated either gift certificates, services, or gift items, your generosity made the raffle not only successful but a lot of fun! Those who participated commented on the quality and the quantity of the items raffled. I’m very thankful for all the business donations, and for those of you who doubled your giving to ensure each session had fabulous raffle items thank you so very much for going above and beyond!

To the community, I was overwhelmed that night with how each of you came out to lift me and my kids up with your love and support. During and even after the event I cannot thank everyone enough for your personal donations, ongoing friendship and support through this tragic time in mine and my kids’ lives. No one ever dreams their life and family will turn out this way, but your love and prayers are helping us push through each and every day.

I want to share that one of my goals is to take this terrible loss and turn it into something good that can benefit others, by starting the Angelo Turano Memorial Foundation. The foundation will support scholarships for high school graduates pursuing a mechanical certification from a vocational technical school.

Finally, on behalf of my children, Angelo, Adrianna, Jonathan and myself I want express my deepest and most heartfelt thanks for everyone’s continued support. God bless you all!
