Often it feels like much of society is insensitive and uncaring.

Early New Year's Eve we were dining out in Westerly. A young man from Westerly showed concern about my husband, Bob, and me being engulfed by his ever-growing group of friends. Since he felt our New Year's Eve dinner was being diminished by the group, he proceeded to pay for our dinners. He was anonymous until a restaurant staff member pointed him out to us.

Such a lovely gesture and great way to end 2018. We heard he is moving to Boston in two weeks. Westerly's loss and Boston's gain.

Happy New Year to all, especially that young man.
