This week will be a busy one at the senior center with several special events.
On Tuesday, the visiting nurse will be available from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. to monitor blood pressure or consult on health concerns. This is a free service from the South County Visiting Nurses.
On Wednesday and Friday, from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., the AARP tax aides will be available to help Westerly area residents file their taxes. As they have been very busy this year, please be sure to have your Social Security card, picture I.D., proof of insurance form, and any pertinent forms for income, and expenses that you plane to itemize.
On Friday, the center van will be leaving for Warwick Mall. If you are a Westerly senior who plans to take advantage of this service, please contact Edie at the Mealsite office at 401-596-7216.
Also on Friday, RIPTA will be holding a Photo I.D. Clinic for those who plan to purchase RIPTA “no fare” or low fare bus passes which may be used for RIPTA or Flex buses. There are forms available at the office that explain what you need to bring or fill out for these passes.
On Friday evening, from 5 to 7 p.m., the Center will be holding a Chowder and Fritter dinner. Fritters and three types of chowder will be served. Tickets are $10 in advance ($5 for children) and $15 at the door.
For the future, AARP will be offering an AARP Safe Drive class at the center on Friday, June 7, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. with an hour lunch break at noon. The class is $15 for AARP members and $20 for non-AARP members. To register for the class, pick up a form at the center office and turn in the form and cash or check made out to “AARP.” The class is limited to 30 students.
