WESTERLY — The Westerly Area Peace and Justice Group will hold a climate strike vigil on Friday, May 24, from 5 to 6 p.m., at the fountain on Broad Street in downtown Westerly.

Climate strikes have been held regularly in recent months around the world, with more than a million people estimated to have participated in one held in March. Some groups have walked out of school and others have gathered in front of parliamentary buildings. Young people have been striking to protest government inaction on climate change.

The vigil by members and friends of the Westerly Area Peace and Justice Group will support the action of the “Laudato Si Generation,” an international movement of Catholic youth. The movement calls for national action on climate change and seeks to raise awareness of the Green New Deal. For more information, visit laudatosigeneration.org.
