WESTERLY — Town officials will provide an overview of plans for a major reconstruction of School Street during a meeting scheduled for Wednesday night from 5:30 to 7 p.m. in Council Chambers at Town Hall.
Town Manager J. Mark Rooney said the meeting is intended to give residents an initial understanding of current plans and timelines for the project, which is scheduled for next year. The project, including water system upgrades, is currently estimated to cost about $3 million. A mixture of funds from the $15 million road bond approved by voters in 2018 and Water Department funds will likely be used to pay for the work, Rooney said. The Town Council will authorize the final payment formula.
The project is expected to be similar to the reconstruction of Cross Street. Reconstruction of that main artery in the center of town, which is adjacent to School Street, was completed in the summer of 2017 for about $2.5 million.
