WESTERLY — The Westerly 350th Anniversary's Olde Tyme Fair on Saturday is expected to draw a large crowd and police are asking local residents and visitors to be aware of road closures and detours, as well as park regulations, that are intended to enhance safety and expedite traffic flow.

Westerly Police Capt. Steven Johnson said the department would close Wilcox Avenue to all through traffic from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. The parking spots on the east side of Grove Avenue, between Granite Street and Wilcox Avenue, will be restricted for handicap parking.

Johnson said that blankets, towels, and chairs will be allowed to be placed in  designated areas for the music concerts beginning at 5 p.m. on Friday. Any bags left unattended, either in advance or during the event, will be removed.

Johnson urged residents and event-goers to be patient and to follow the regulations. Those traveling through the area should also be prepared for delays.

"Please use caution in the downtown area during this event due to the increased pedestrian and vehicle traffic," Johnson said.
