Join fellow runners and walkers this morning at the Naik Family Branch of the Ocean Community YMCA for Stonington High School’s 11th annual Memorial Day Bearathon 5K Road Race and 2-Mile Walk. The race begins and ends at the YMCA and features an out-and-back course to the Mystic River Marina. Proceeds will benefit high school student activities, and some of the proceeds will be donated to the Pawcatuck VFW. Find a bonnet and buy a ticket to an “English-elegant Summer Tea.” The Friends of the Westerly Library and Wilcox Park are inviting guests to attend an “English-elegant” special “Summer Tea” on Saturday, June 1, beginning at 1 p.m., in the auditorium on the second floor. Tea will be served, along with tea sandwiches and scones, and a brief talk about “the history of tea, this highly interesting beverage” will be presented. Members of the Friends group encourage guests to wear hats or fascinators, and to purchase tickets ahead of time. Tickets are $15 per person and available at the circulation desk.


Join fellow paradegoers today for the annual Westerly-Pawcatuck Memorial Day Parade at 9:30 a.m. in Downtown Westerly-Pawcatuck. The Memorial Day Parade will beginning at the Pawcatuck Shopping Center, 37 South Broad St., Pawcatuck. The parade will continue through the center of Westerly and end in Wilcox Park.


The Mystic Memorial Day Parade, which takes place today at 2 p.m. in downtown Mystic, is sponsored by the Hugo A. Simonelli Post 3263 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and steps off on Water Street, rain or shine, and will proceed along Route 1 to the VFW Post home, 60 Stonington Road, where a Memorial Day service will be held.

Rush to Stonington Saturday morning to buy treasures from the jewelry, toy, linen, artwork, book and plant tables and to marvel at the White Elephant and Sweet Tooth booths at the Calvary Church Spring Yard Sale on 27 Church St. Early bird admission at 8:30 a.m. is $5. Lace up your running shoes and run in the Pawcatuck Lions Annual 5K Road Race and 2-Mile Walk Saturday. A short kids’ run kicks off the race at 8:45 a.m., with the other races beginning at 9 a.m., starting from Donahue Park. The course runs down Mechanic Street along the Pawcatuck River. Prizes for division winners and a free raffle ticket for all participants. $15 for ages 4-17; $20 for adult 5K; $17 for walkers; and $25 on the day of the race.
