UNITE TO BREAK GROUND

MUSIC TO OUR EARS

Be in the audience Saturday night for a one-of-a-kind local event when the beloved founding music director of The Chorus of Westerly, George "Bunky" Kent, conducts the first part of a program featuring selected movement from G.F. Handel's "Dettingen Te Deum."  Following the "Dettingen Te Deum," current music director Andrew Howell will conduct the chorus and the Festival Orchestra in a performance of "Nänie" by Johannes Brahms and two movements of Beethoven's famous Ninth Symphony, the "Ode to Joy." In addition to the chorus and orchestra, soloists Tracy Cox, soprano, Heather Johnson, mezzo soprano, Daniel Weeks, tenor, and Ron Loyd, bass will be featured. DYNAMIC DUO

Listen to some new music from the Parillo-Harrington Duo Friday at 7 p.m. at the Cross’ Mills Public Library, a program in the library's free Friday Night Concert series, and hear URI Music Professor Joe Parillo, who has been performing and composing classical, jazz, and folk-influenced music since 1980, and Christine Harrington, who has been an orchestral and chamber music performer and music educator for 40 years, during an evening of original music and composition. Make sure to stop by Wilcox Park Sunday between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. for the 37th Annual Garden Market Fair. Shop from vendors selling plants and garden accessories, stop by Master Gardener’s information kiosk to learn about testing soil samples and take the little ones to the Kid’s Corner where young gardeners can create dish gardens.
