WESTERLY — Two people were arrested on felony drug possession charges after they were searched Sunday during a traffic stop for a broken headlight.
Westerly police charged Daniel J. Nesbit, 40, of 5 N. Joseph St., Westerly, and Megan L. Underwood, 39, of Wakefield, with possession of a narcotic substance. Nesbit was also cited for driving with a suspended license, and Underwood was charged on a bench warrant from Fourth Division District Court.
They were arraigned on Monday and were released on a promise to appear in January for separate felony screenings in Washington County Superior Court.
The police said Nesbit was stopped along Friendship Street around 7 p.m. The police said he was very nervous and admitted that he did not have a valid license.
The police said Underwood admitted having crack cocaine and officers discovered 1.6 grams in the front pocket of her hooded sweatshirt. Another .3 gram, belonging to Nesbit, was found underneath a mat on the driver's side floor during a K-9 search. Three crack pipes were also seized, the police said.
