STONINGTON — Because of heavy rainfall on Sunday, Stonington Shellfish Commission Chairman Donald Murphy announced that several shellfishing areas in town will remain closed until further notice.

According to Murphy, Shellfishing areas A and B and the outer Quiambaug Cove area will be closed to the harvesting of clams, oysters and mussels for a minimum of seven days.

To check on the status of the shellfishing areas, call the Stonington Shellfish Commission's information line at 860-599-7575.
