LEDYARD — Volunteers with the Old Mystic and North Stonington fire departments helped to douse a garage fire in the southeastern corner of Ledyard on Wednesday afternoon. The smoke could be seen from Route 184 in Stonington and Groton.

The fire was reported about 2:15 p.m. and scorched the garage at 22 Brentford Berwick, in a neighborhood off Shewsville Road. The response was led by the Ledyard Fire and Gales Ferry fire departments, with mutual aid from Old Mystic, North Stonington, Mashantucket, Center Groton, East Great Plains, Laurel Hill and Poquetanuck. Ledyard police and American Ambulance also responded.

The garage, about 100 feet from the home, and two cars were damaged and considered a total loss. There were no injuries. The fire was contained in about 25 minutes, officials said.
