MYSTIC — The 2019 grand marshal for the Mystic Irish Parade will be announced Thursday at 8:30 a.m. at the Mystic Fire Department B.F. Hoxie Station, 34 Broadway Ave.

Celebrating its 16th year, the Mystic Irish Parade will be stepping off from Mystic Seaport at 1 p.m. on Sunday, March 24. Drawing more than 30,000 visitors annually, the parade is the biggest single-day event in Mystic and will mark the grand finale of St. Patrick’s Day celebrations.

The primary prerequisite for leading the parade is “honoring, supporting and being a positive, contributing member in the Southeastern Connecticut community,” the parade organizers said. Last year's grand marshals were a father-and-son duo, Bob and Rob Valenti.
