MYSTIC — Beginning Monday, the Mystic Aquarium is offering weekday complimentary admission to government employees whose jobs are affected by the government shutdown.

The aquarium has extended complimentary weekday general admission for furloughed government employees with a valid work ID Monday through Friday, through the duration of the shutdown. The offer is redeemable at the gate and is valid for government employees only.

The local community, most notably the Coast Guard and the Naval Submarine Base, is directly impacted by the government shutdown, said Roslyn Gilhuly, senior vice president of external relations for the aquarium.

“We have always taken great pride in our role not only in the community but as a destination for family fun and learning,” she said. “We hope to be able to provide a fun diversion during what is undoubtedly a stressful time for local families.”
