GROTON — Naval Submarine Base New London will hold security drills next week that will include live automatic weapon fire with blanks. The training is part of "Citadel Shield," an security exercise scheduled between Feb. 3 and Feb. 8. The base's public affairs office said that the training may affect traffic and base access.
Latrice Jackson, a member of the public affairs office, said that the drills "will involve base security force mobile units, boats, simulated role players, aggressor boats, submarines and waterfront facilities."
"As in the past few years, many drills will also involve live automatic weapons firing with blanks," she said.
Dave Cruz, base training officer, said the exercises are scheduled between 9 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Cruz said that if neighbors or base personnel hear gunfire or something of concern at any other time, they should report it immediately to the proper authorities.
