WEST WARWICK, R.I. (AP) — One person is dead after police say a pickup truck slammed into a home in West Warwick.

The crash on Andrews Avenue occurred around 1:30 a.m. on Thursday and claimed the life of the vehicle's driver.

Police identified the driver as 33-year-old Michael Golding, of West Warwick. Police say he was trying to elude a Coventry police officer, who stopped pursuing when Golding entered West Warwick. They say he was driving erratically and speeding.

The fire department says his truck hit a tree before coming to rest against the side of the house.

Authorities said five people were evacuated from the home, which was condemned because of structural damage. No one inside the house was injured.
