BRISTOL, R.I. (AP) — A Catholic priest says he's sad that someone felt the need to rip a box used to collect donations for the disadvantaged off the church's wall.

The Rev. Henry Zinno, pastor at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Bristol, says the so-called "poor box" was torn from the wall sometime Tuesday when the church was open as it always is for prayer and reflection. A maintenance worker noticed it was missing at about 4 p.m.

It's unclear just how much money was in the box when it was stolen.

All that was left behind was four holes in the wall and pieces of plaster on the floor.

Bristol police have been notified.
