RICHMOND — A local woman is facing charges after police said she crashed head-on into a utility pole on Kenyon Hill Trail last week.

Melissa McKeen, 37, of 11 Chelsea Farm Drive, was charged Wednesday with driving under the influence with an unknown blood alcohol content and refusal to submit to a chemical test. She was released on a promise to appear in Fourth Division District Court later this month, police said.

Police said the crash that occurred on Jan. 2 around 4:30 p.m. when McKeen's eastbound vehicle struck the utility pole at 10 Kenyon Hill Road. The pole needed to be replaced by National Grid, police said. Police was McKeen was given a field sobriety test and was taken into custody. At the police station, she refused to consent to a breathalyzer or blood test, police said.
