STONINGTON — An Old Mystic woman was arrested in Stonington at about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday after the police received reports from other police departments of an erratic driver in Waterford and Groton. The woman, Laurie A. Harman, 54, of 50 Circle Drive, was charged with driving under the influence, failure to drive to the right and driving when license is suspended or denied.
According to a summary report, Waterford police released a description of Harman's car in midafternoon after it allegedly hit a vehicle in that town. About an hour later, the Town of Groton police also issued an alert with the same description of a car traveling erratically along Route 184 near Cow Hill Road.
A Stonington officer found the car along Route 201 near Hyde Pond and noted that it had come into the oncoming lane of travel before the officer was able to initiate a traffic stop. Harman showed signs of intoxication and was given a field sobriety test, which she failed, the police said. It was determined that her driver's license had recently been suspended.
It was unclear whether Harman was able to post bond. She could face additional charges in Waterford pending an investigation into the reported crash.
