STONINGTON — Police arrested an Alabama man wanted in Tennessee after he skipped bail following for alleged home repair fraud.

Brian Joseph Bellemare, 48, of Athens, Ala., was taken into custody at the Rodeway Inn in Mystic early Thursday morning by bail enforcement specialists and turned over to the Stonington Police Department. He was charged on an extraditable warrant and held pending a hearing in New London Superior Court.

According to Stonington police, a warrant search revealed he was wanted by the Williamson County Sheriff's Office in Franklin, Tenn. Bellemare is expected to be be extradited back to face related charges.

Court records indicate that Bellemare was charged in May 2019 in Alabama after an investigation into reports that he had failed to complete contracted home repairs that he was paid for in advance. Multiple people told investigators they had hired Bellemare to finish their cabinets, but said he disappeared after receiving payment.

Similar complaints were made in Tennessee, Georgia and Florida, according to court records, which led to sheriffs in Tennessee obtaining the warrant.
