RICHMOND — Rhode Island State Police are investigating the cause of a Monday morning crash along Interstate 95 South after officials said a car went off the highway and into the woods, striking a tree head-on.

Hope Valley-Wyoming firefighters, Hope Valley EMS and state troopers were called to the area of the weigh station in Wyoming at midmorning for reports of a one car crash. The driver was not injured.

According to officials, the car went out of control and left the highway off the right shoulder, went down an embankment and into a wooded area before hitting the tree. The crash caused delays along the highway as a lane was closed for response. All lanes were reopened in about an hour.

State police were investigating.
