WESTERLY — A Hopkinton man is facing charges after the police seized over 14 grams of cocaine during a traffic stop early Wednesday.
The man, 38-year-old Peter J. Furmanick, of 233 North Road, was arraigned in Fourth Division District Court on charges of possession of a controlled substance and driving with a suspended or denied license, third or subsequent offense. He was also cited with speeding.
According to Westerly police, Furmanick was stopped on Granite Street around 12:50 a.m. Wednesday. The police said he was holding a plastic bag.
After failing to abide by an officer’s commands, a search was conducted leading officers to find a large bag containing 13.2 grams of a white powder substance that tested positive for cocaine. Police also seized two smaller bags containing 0.6 grams each.
Furmanick was released on a promise to appear. He is due in Washington Superior Court for a felony screening in May.
